Page upAbout me?
Forever drawn to what is going on under the surface of the water, be it saltwater, freshwater, or even underground, I have been working in the seafood industry for 25 years. Passionate about wild Pacific Salmon and the surrounding industry, I have dedicated a large part of my career to this noble fish and spent a great deal of time in the Pacific Northwest, in Alaska, and more recently in China. I have met some wonderful people there who have taught me a lot, and with whom I have become very good friends. Thanks to a very wise Canadian producer and valued friend of mine, in 1986 I became the first person to introduce wild Pacific salmon fillets still sold nowadays under the same specifications on the French market. I co-signed a non-profit making book entitled “Saumon Sauvage”, with Pascal Demay, a friend of mine who is equally passionate about the subject matter. “Saumon Sauvage” was financed by several companies involved in the various stages of Pacific Salmon industry: the shipping line, cold-storage, freight forwarders, producers, importers, and marketing organization. In 1988, the original version of " Saumon Sauvage" was written in French and concentrated on Pacific Salmon and the Pacific Salmon industry. It was re-published in 1991. This book was highly acclaimed throughout the industry, and has largely contributed to the education of French buyers as well as helping to promote certain specific origins and the industry itself. " Saumon Sauvage" has been referenced in several bibliographies and in the French magazine "GEO" in 1989. It remains to this day the only book to have been written on this subject in the French language. In addition to this, I started to develop a strong interest in the East Coast of the US, which turned out to be another very interesting fishery located in another fantastic environment, where I met some great people who remain friends of mine to this day. Thanks to the contacts I made, I developed a specialty in Dogfish, Skate and Monkfish, as well as learning about Scallops. I now have several years of solid experience working for some leading Producers/Exporters from New Bedford. My Asian experience is largely located in China, where over the last few years I have been involved in shipping North Pacific Wild Salmon from Alaska and Canada for re-processing, as well as importing finished products. I also have some experience of working in Argentina, but that is another story. During my lengthy career in the seafood industry, I have been an international conference speaker and survey consultant. I have also carried out consulting projects with my fellow co-author, for advertising companies and professionals in diverse fields of international activity. Besides my job, I am also a Technical and Cave Scuba Diver (relax and watch a little lovie), Photographer, Guitarist, Biker, Traveller and a computer addict.
